Funding for hearing aids

Funding for hearing aids in New Zealand

1. Ministry of Health offers a $500 per hearing aid subsidy to every adult.
   This is available every 6 years. See a qualified audiologist for information.
2. ACC covers hearing loss caused by noise exposure at work eg truck drivers, timber mill workers etc.
   If the ACC claim for industrial deafness is accepted rehabilitation will be offered, which usually means hearing aids or assistive listening devices.
3. WINZ can provide loans on pensions and benefits up to a limit of $1000, to enable the purchase of hearing aids.
4. All children are provided with hearing aids, FM equipment and rehabilitation services free of charge.
   This service is provided through the public hospitals.
