Kirsty Gerlach, though raised in New Zealand, completed her Masters Degree in Audiology in California. She worked for many years in Los Angeles school programs for deaf children as well as in private audiology clinics.
She returned to NZ in 1988, creating Bay Audiology and acting as primary audiologist and director, before another 8 year stint in the US. She has returned permanently to NZ with her US husband and 4 children to build her premium business, Kirsty Gerlach Hearing.
Kirsty is highly qualified and motivated to help those with hearing impairment. Her extensive experience with all ages and types of hearing loss, in a variety of settings, equips her to understand the needs of the hearing impaired. She has gathered around her a team of Audiologists and staff who share her high ideals.
Kirsty sums up her role in these words –
“To communicate is the essence of the human experience but hearing loss is an invisible barrier to communication. It can present as anything from mild to profound in degree and can impact a life on a scale from minimal to catastrophic.
Frustration, social isolation and misunderstanding are the hallmarks of hearing impairment.
The audiologist steps into the middle of these dynamics. We identify and quantify the hearing impairment, plan a pathway of rehabilitation,
and guide the hearing impaired person to an improved quality of life.”
